'In performance, there is no such thing as a rich or poor country, every country is rich in culture...' - Performing Earth
The belief is that every individual, in any corner of the globe, has the right to perform. Workshops have been held in large theatres, at festivals, in International Schools and a whole host of other places. Performing Earth aims to travel far and wide, with shows created by the project itself aswell as the people it meets on the way. The project is constantly expanding and evolving, with recent work including visits to South Korea, Thailand, Poland, Mexico, USA, China. The project also appeared at the European Capital Of Culture 2011 in Tallinn, Estonia.
GRAND OPENING NIGHT: PERFORMING EARTH ARTS CENTRE
The new ‘Performing Earth Arts Centre’ in Thornhill Edge opened on Saturday 23rd November for the grand opening night. The night was a great success with live theatre performances and live signed rock band Morain providing the entertainment. In addition to this Dewsbury TV covered the whole event and gave a presentation of their work to the audience. Incidentally there were six different nationalities represented in the attendees, with audience members from the U.K., Belgium, Spain, Poland, Turkey and the Czech Republic. This added to the international feel to the event. The next night at the arts centre, which is located on Albion Road, was for ‘The Christmas Party Night’, where Skelmanthorpe/Gawthorpe Brass Band Players and acoustic guitarist Chris Fox were among others on the bill. The evening was on Monday 23rd December. The latest event was held on Friday 28th October, named 'Leap Year Live', with live theatre alongside musician Tom Smith and media presenter Michael McGougan, for which the press release is pictured below. The centre is also available as rehearsal space and for youth education groups. Anyone wanting a space for a creative activity is encouraged to email; firstname.lastname@example.org
